IMAGINE IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR CHILD A UNIQUE ADVANTAGE BY IDENTIFYING THEIR LEARNING TRENDS AND DEVELOPING INTERESTS AND SKILLS AS EARLY AND AS ACCURATELY AS POSSIBLE?

OUR NEWLY INVENTED MODEL LETS YOU "VISUALISE" YOUR CHILD'S ENTIRE LEARNING HISTORY AND LEARNING DIRECTIONS – ALL ON ONE EVOLVING "LIVE" ROOTS AND SHOOTS DIAGRAM (A CLEVER NZ INVENTION!!).

After listening for many years to the wishlists of parents, ECE teachers and primary school teachers, we have invented a new and easy way to visualise learning and development for your child during their years at daycare.

Your child’s learning and development throughout their years in ECE can now be displayed all on one growing & evolving diagram that provides a "quick click" lookup (organised chronologically and by skills) of all learning stories & observations made by our teachers. This is a unique feature & it is proving very popular with our parents & teachers - taking the existing technology of e-portfolios one step further!

We call it "LEARNING ROOTS and LEARNING SHOOTS" and like any good idea:
1) it is simple,
2) it copies nature (a process called "biomimicry" which uses the result of millions of years of nature's perfections and patterns for inspiration to solve today's technical problems),
3) and best of all - it works!

The model is based on a clever analogy that:
“roots” are the invisible part of a tree that: a) are hidden within (i.e. just like hidden potential, interests, skills, etc in your child), b) absorb nutrients (i.e. just like learning from teachers, family and the environment), and c) hold the foundations steady for growth of the entire tree.
“shoots” are the visible part that reveal the fruits, flowers, leaves, branches (i.e. just like the visible outcomes of learning and in particular, which directions the skills and learning are growing in for your child).

Extending our philosophy through mimicry of nature, parents at Fern Garden can log in to view their child’s entire portfolio and learning outcomes in a holistic manner. Presently, learning stories written by most ECE centres (including Fern Garden) are filed in hard copy folder for the child and parent to view. Some centres also make e-portfolios which are accessible online for parents and family to view (as is the case at Fern Garden too). But in addition to having learning stories each month that link the learning to general curriculum outcomes, Fern Garden teachers are going the extra step to also identify the curriculum’s specific learning skills. PLUS they are now able to thread all of these skills and interests together throughout the child’s time at the centre to enable parents to visualise the emerging developments in a single view using this new tool.

And that’s the unique innovation…Parents (for the FIRST TIME) can visualise the entire learning portfolio, learning trends and new directions for their child in a single evolving live tree diagram each week and month as their child emerges and develops interests and skills during their most crucial early years.

For more information you can read about this in a local newspaper article (Click here), and you are most welcome to call in, talk to us and see a demonstration of how Fern Garden can give your child a unique advantage - not yet found in any other daycare in NZ...

This is another Kiwi invention by Nikeeta and Darius, inspired by the NZ Early Childhood Education curriculum (Te Whaariki).   "Learning Roots" and "Learning Shoots" and "Learning Webs" are registered trademarks and the technology is patented in New Zealand #608452 and patent pending in several countries.
